- Rinse under running water, squeezing continuously, until the water runs clear and no foam appears.
- Check it by pressing against a white towel. Colour transfer means go again.
Method 02 · Monthly reset
The 60-second microwave clean

This one went viral through cleaning creators, and it works — but the safety details matter, and most versions online leave them out.
- Fill a microwave-safe ceramic or glass mug with water and a squirt of soap. No metallic trim.
- Soak the sponge until it is saturated and completely submerged. Any part sitting above the waterline can scorch.
- Microwave for 60 seconds.
- Let it cool for at least five minutes. The water and the sponge will be extremely hot.
- Squeeze out the dirty water and rinse.
Worth knowing: no sponge manufacturer officially endorses this, and repeated microwaving degrades the foam. Use it monthly, not weekly — and never microwave a dry sponge.

How to dry it — where most people go wrong
Washing removes bacteria. Drying is what stops them coming back. A damp sponge sealed in a makeup bag is a warmer, wetter environment than the one it just came out of.
- Squeeze, never wring. Press it inside a clean towel to pull water out.

Why does my beauty blender smell?

You cannot remove mould from a beauty blender. Mould grows through porous foam, not on it — surface cleaning takes away what you can see and leaves the rest behind.
